Landmark Permit Process

  1. Obtain Required Permits.

  2. Occupy Roadway Adjacent To The Sidewalk (This Requires A Permit).

  3. Remove All Existing Bluestone And Set Aside.

  4. Excavate 4"-6" Of Subgrade. 

  5. Install 4"-6" Of Limestone Screenings Over The Subgrade (This Helps Prevent Frost Heave And Allows For Drainage).

  6. Using The Sketch Created For The Project Install New  And Salvaged Bluestone On A Bed Of Setting Sand.

  7. Install Sand In The Joints Using A Garden Hose To Thoroughly Fill The Void.

New Bluestone Requirements

  • 3"-5" minimum thickness As Per DOT And Landmark & Preservation Commision Specifications

  • Any New stone Must Have An Area Greater Than 20 Sqaure Feet.

  • We Typically Try To Install The Largest Possible Stone And Design The Sidewalk In This Manner.

Stone Sidewalk Installation Process

  1. Fill Out Landmark Application

  2. Draw A Sketch Of Existing Bluestone Sidewalk Detailing The Dimensions Of Every Single Stone Noting Wich Stones Can Be Salvaged And Reused And Which Must Be Replaced

  3. Draw A Sketch Of The Proposed Sidewalk Detailing The Dimensions And Locations Of All The New And Salvaged Stones.

  4. Take Photos Of The Existing And Adjacent Sidewalks

  5. Prepare Package For Landmark Commision And Deliver It.

  6. If No Issues Are Found A Permit Will Be Issued Within 6 Weeks

  4. Excavate 4"-6" Of Subgrade And Remove From The Property 

  5. Install 4"-6" Of Limestone Screenings Over The Subgrade (This Helps Prevent Frost Heave And Allows For Drainage).

  6. Install New Bluestone Or Pavers In The Backyard (Stones Will Be 1.5" Inches Thick If set In Sand 1" (If Set In Mortar The Joints Will Be Filled With Mortar).

  7. Install Sand In The Joints Using A Garden Hose To Thoroughly Fill The Void.
